“I saw six lights over the airport in absolute uniform in a V shape…”
In 1997, the famous actor Kurt Russell observed a strange phenomenon while flying in his private airplane. Little did he know that it would end up going down in history as one of the most emblematic cases of ufology.
For ufologists and amateur UFO hunters, the so-called “Phoenix lights” are a momentous event.
This alleged UFO sighting, recorded in Nevada, Arizona, and Mexico in 1997, took place when several witnesses claimed to have seen lights flying through the sky in triangular formation, maintaining a trajectory too stable to be a mere atmospheric phenomenon.
Well: one of the first reports (if not the first) about the incident was thanks to a pilot whose name was not revealed.
And now we know that the pilot was no other than Kurt Russell, who witnessed the Phoenix lights as he was flying in his private plane.
Kurt Russell who was one of the actors in Escape from Los Angeles and the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, made his revelation during an interview with the BBC.
As he explains, everything happened when he took his son Oliver on his private plane, so that the boy could visit his girlfriend.
“I was flying [his son Oliver] to go see his girlfriend, and we were on approach,” Russell explained.
“I saw six lights over the airport in absolute uniform in a V shape. Oliver said to me — I was just looking at him, I was coming in, we’re maybe a half a mile out — and Oliver said, ‘Pa, what are those lights?’
“Then I kind of came out of my reverie and I said, ‘I don’t know what they are.’ He said, ‘Are we okay here?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, I’m gonna call in,’ and I reported it.”
At the time, Russel didn’t make much of the odd lights he and his son had witnessed. However, he remembers that a few years later after the sighting, his wife was watching TV, when a report about the Phoenix lights was being broadcasted.
Then, he remembered everything that he had witnessed.
Check out a video clip where Russel speaks about one of the greatest UFO sightings in modern ufology.
